Standard Polymer PBT Masterbatch | Consistent Quality for High-Performance Plastics

PBT, also we call it polybutylene terephthalate. The PBT master batch is a masterbatch that mixes a relatively high proportion of agents (such as pigments and additives) into PBT resin.

Why PBT Masterbatch, Not Choosing PBT Resin?

PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) represents an necessary polymer due to its unique combination of properties ( such as heat resistance, mechanical strength, and low moisture absorption). However, in practical manufacturing, the PBT granules have to face the following challenges:PBT masterbatch

➤ Yellowing or inconsistent color

➤ Unable to meet safety standards for lacking of flame retardancy

➤ Brittleness or insufficient impact resistance

➤ Aging or reduced lifespan in outdoor or high-temperature environments

Then, here come our Standard Polymer’s PBT masterbatches. Some of the most significant improvements in polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) can be achieved through the use of masterbatch technology. By incorporating tailored masterbatches, PBT masterbatch fixes those issues. It can enhance product performance while maintaining compatibility and batch-to-batch consistency.

Types and Functions of PBT Masterbatch

PBT masterbatches are categorized based on their functional additives and the performance problems they solve:

Masterbatch Type

Function

Color Masterbatch

Greatly reduces yellowing, ensures uniform color

Whitening Masterbatch

Removes slight yellow appearance, produces bright white parts

Flame Retardant Masterbatch

Improves fire safety rating (e.g., UL94 V-0)

Reinforcing/Toughening Masterbatch

Enhances impact resistance

Anti-Aging Masterbatch

Improves weather resistance, protects product against UV and oxidation

tip: Select master batch type based on your product performance requirements.

Application Areas of Standard Polymer’s PBT Masterbatch

Thanks to their excellent properties, PBT masterbatches are widely applied in:PBT masterbatch

▪ Electronics & Electrical: Connectors, switches, coil forms, relay and capacitor housings (high flame-retardant requirements)

▪ Automotive: Sensors, ignition system parts, lamp holders, bumpers (heat and impact resistance)

▪ Machinery: Gears, bearings, pump housings, fan blades (enhanced wear and toughness)

▪ Optical Fiber: Secondary coating materials (UV and aging resistance)

▪ Home Appliances: Internal components of rice cookers, hair dryers, coffee machines (heat resistance and safety)

Procurement tip: Match masterbatch type to your application for faster selection.

Relationship Between PBT and PET Masterbatches

As we compared PBT with other resins, it is easy to wonder how to choose the right resin between them? Later I will present the similarity and differences for you.

Chemical structure: PBT and PET have similar chemical structures; the main difference is the diol chain length.

Theoretical interchangeability: In low-demand applications, PET masterbatch could replace PBT. But we still not recommend that.

Practical caution: PBT and PET are different in crystallization rate and shrinkage. The differences may affect dimensional stability and surface finish. Therefore, for high-performance engineering parts, always use dedicated masterbatch.
