Masterbatch is a concentrated pellet product obtained by thoroughly blending high-concentration pigments, additives, or functional additives with a carrier resin.

Through pre-dispersion of the materials and strong shearing in a twin-screw extruder, a granular concentrated masterbatch is produced. This masterbatch offers advantages such as high dispersion, low addition rate, and environmental friendly(dust-free).

 

According to different plastic products’ application, masterbatches can be made with different carriers to ensure 100% compatibility between the masterbatch and the basic resin.

 1. Color Masterbatch

Color masterbatch is the most commonly used in plastic parts.  Through the uniform dispersion of pigments in carrier resins, it achieves color control and good effects in plastic products. It is suitable for films, non-woven fabrics, wires and cables, pipes, plastic containers (bottles), injection molded parts, and other products.

 2. Black & White Masterbatches

⚫ Black Masterbatch — Covers a variety of carriers, applications, and regulations with high concentration, high dispersion.

⚪ White Masterbatch — Provides bright white color, high opacity, and high dispersion effect; white masterbatch concentration up to 70-75%, covering a variety of carriers.

UV/Weathering Resistant Masterbatch — Lengthen the lifetime of outdoor products, reduces color fading, and delays resin chalking in outdoor.

Antistatic Masterbatch — Reduces the risk of static electricity buildup, suitable for films and electronic shell.

Flame Retardant Masterbatch — Improves the fire resistance of materials, reducing property damage and personal injury.

Filler Masterbatch (such as calcium carbonate masterbatch, talc masterbatch) — Reduces costs and can also improves mechanical strength.

2. How do I choose the right masterbatch for my product?

When choose the masterbatch, you need to consider: the compatibility of the base and carrier  resin(such as PE, PP, etc.), the product types (outdoor use, food packaging, etc.), the processing method (injection molding, film blowing, etc.), and other required functions (color, antistatic, flame retardant, etc.), as well as any other special regulations. The best choice ensures good dispersion and stable performance.

 

3. What is the recommended let-down ratio for the master batch?

There is no fixed answer to this question. Usually divided into the following three situations

First, we usually try our best to meet customer's needs, and if we cannot, we will feedback to the customer for adjustments.

However, the typical addition ratio for color masterbatches is 2%-6%; while functional masterbatches likes: UV-resistant and flame-retardant masterbatches may require 3%-10% or even higher.

Other specific ratio should be adjusted based on the desired effect and processing tests.

 

4. How can masterbatches prevent unevenness, color differences, or agglomeration during processing?

Ensuring good dispersion is key. It is recommended to use masterbatches that are 100% compatible with the base material, and need to control processing during processing, such as processing temperature, screw temperature, and screw speed.  Pre-drying the raw materials can also reduce bubbles caused by moisture. Choosing high-quality masterbatches can minimize these problems.

 

5. What is the difference between masterbatch and pigments/additives?

Compared to direct add pigments or functional additives, masterbatch is pellet form, and mastebatch have the following advantages: dust-free, easy to weight, ensuring more uniform dispersion, and increase efficient of the production process.

6. Can the masterbatch be used for food-grade or hygiene industry? Are there any certification standards?

7. How long does sampling take?

For standard masterbatch usualy we have stock, we can ship out in the first day.

If need customized:

Once both parties have clearly confirmed the requirements, and after we receive the customer's standards or samples, we will provide a quotation within 2 days, and the masterbatch samples will be ready in 3-4 business days for free.

 

8. Do you support small-batch customization during the sampling stage?

Absolutely, our minimum order quantity is only 25KG. If your quantity doesn't meet this requirement in the beginning, that's fine. Contact us, and our sales team will provide the best solution based on your needs.

 

9.  How long is your lead time for bulk orders?

Typically, for orders less than 2 tons, our lead time is 5 work days.

For orders between 2-5 tons, the lead time is 7 work days.

Orders larger than 5 tons usually require approximately 10 work days or more.
