What is anti-fog masterbatch?

Anti-fog masterbatch is a functional additive that can effectively prevent water vapor from gathering on the surface of the film to form a fog layer. Its working principle is to form a hydrophilic layer on the film surface. When the film contacts cold air or hot air, the water vapor will diffuse evenly into water drops instead of forming a foggy layer that hinders transparency, thereby keeping the packaging film good transparent.

Applicable Materials and Recommended Structures

Anti-fog masterbatch performs best in the following structures:

✅ CPP film (cast polypropylene)

✅ BOPP film (biaxially oriented polypropylene)

⚠️ The anti-fog effect is relatively weak in PE film, and it is not recommended to be used as a priority.

Recommended Adding Methods

Surface layer (i.e. the film layer that is in direct contact with food or product)

Intermediate core layer (can enhance migration and durability)

Factors Affecting Anti-fog Effect

When using anti-fog masterbatch, the following factors will significantly affect its performance:

1.Processing parameters (such as film blowing/casting temperature, extrusion rate)

2.Film structure design (single layer/multilayer, corona treatment or not)

3.Polymer type (such as PP copolymer, homopolymer or PE blend)

4.Interaction of other additives (such as antistatic agent, lubricant)

It is recommended to conduct proofing verification before actual application. Different additives may produce synergistic or antagonistic effects, affecting the anti-fog effect and film performance.

Although anti-fog additive can significantly improve the visual effect of packaging film, it may have a certain impact on the following properties in some applications:

Heat seal strength and weldability: may affect the sealing quality

Printing adhesion: pretreatment the film or choose suitable ink

Adhesive performance: Pay attention to adhesive compatibility when used in composite structures

It is recommended to pay special attention to the sealing performance after long-term storage, and conduct sufficient testing when used with other migrating additives (such as anti-fog + anti-static).
